Macy's Is At It Again!

I hadn't checked out Macy's for a while. So, imagine my surprise tonight when I took another look at its Path to Peace Project and found a whole category of Gifts That Give Back. From seasonal ornaments that cost from $13.99 to $23.80 and benefit the communities in Indonesia that have been hit by natural disasters including the tsunami to Christopher Radko ornaments that cost about $50.00 and benefit agencies that help fight AIDS, that care for abused animals, work toward cures for Pediatric Cancer and Childhood Diabetes.
From the original Path to Peace baskets [costs range from $35.00 to $75.00] and the 'O' Bracelets [$132.00 to $330.00] that help the women in war-torn, AIDS- and poverty-stricken Rwanda.

As the Macy's ad puts it: "Of course, the tangible benefits of a reliable income are only part of the story. The women have found confidence, optimism and hope where only a short time ago there was none. Plus, working with women from both sides of the conflict has helped the emotional recovery of all involved. "Some of us are Tutsi survivors, others are Hutus, but we've gone past the divide of ethnicity," says one 45-year-old genocide widow...
"How's that for a fashion statement?"

btw--all items listed here are available online and, I think, you won't find them in stores. jfwiw.

Wow...I never heard of this before, two crows! Thanks.

This is a great idea for teachers gifts or to send to my kids.

hey, ME--
they started last year with the Rwandan baskets. NPR had a story about it.
it's kind of sad, when you think about it -- that a business can shaft it's employees and it's just business as usual; a business does something good and it's on the news because its so abnormal.

anyway, I guess it's working [as in helping the bottom line (who me? cynical?)] since they expanded the lines this year.
and then, there was the sale in Sept. when they gave 20% to cancer research or something -- I forget what.
that's when Macy's was the scene of a miracle-- I bought **gasp** a set of cookware!

Here is Chicago we are a bit miffed at Macy's for coming in and taking over our beloved Fields! If they can improve their image here with something good.

hey, Jude--
sorry it took me so long to respond.
I don't check this blog nearly as often as my primary site:

I hadn't known Macy's bought out another company [had never heard of Field's]. Sorry to hear it.

Still, Macy's IS doing some good stuff-- and I do want to encourage any company that does that. So, tho' I don't often buy at full-price dept. stores, when I do it's always Macy's these days.
